Who’s Really Blind? Letting Jesus Open Our Eyes
Have you ever been surrounded by people and still felt alone? You can live in a busy city, have conversations all day, and still wonder whether anyone knows how you’re really doing.
In John 9, Jesus notices a man others knew as a blind beggar. He heals him, opening eyes that had never seen. But what follows is unexpected: questioning, pressure, and rejection.
Through this man’s journey, we discover an encouraging truth: Jesus sees us, invites us to trust Him, and helps us recognize what we cannot see.
1. I Was Blind—Now I See
You Don’t Need Every Answer to Share Your Story
When the religious leaders questioned the man about Jesus, his response was simple: “One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see” (John 9:25).
He didn’t have every answer. But he knew what Jesus had done.
There is something freeing about that. Sometimes we hesitate to talk about our faith because we’re afraid someone will ask a question we cannot answer. This man reminds us that we can be honest about what we don’t understand while speaking confidently about what we’ve experienced.
You can share how God brought hope into your grief, helped you forgive, or sustained you through uncertainty.
Your understanding can still be growing while your testimony encourages someone else.
2. I See—Now I Believe
Jesus Finds the Person Others Dismiss
The leaders refused to accept the man’s testimony and threw him out. Then John tells us that Jesus heard what happened and found him.
Pause for a moment and be encouraged: JESUS FOUND HIM!
After rejection, Jesus met him personally and invited him into deeper faith.
Perhaps you know what it feels like to be overlooked, misunderstood, or excluded. This story reminds us that you matter to Jesus. He sees beyond the labels others have placed on you.
When Jesus revealed who He was, the man answered, “Lord, I believe,” and worshipped Him (John 9:38).
He began by telling people what Jesus did. Now he was worshipping who Jesus is.
That invitation reaches us too. Knowing about Jesus is meant to lead us into trusting Him.
3. Who’s Really Blind?
Stay Willing to Let Jesus Teach You
The healed man knew he had more to learn. The religious leaders were certain they already saw clearly.
Before we criticize their stubbornness, we need to let this passage examine us.
When God’s Word challenges something we’ve been defending, are we willing to listen? Can we receive correction from someone we wouldn’t have chosen to teach us?
Growth begins with an honest prayer: “Lord, show me what I’m missing.”
Whatever you’re carrying today, bring it to Jesus. He died for our sins and rose again so we could receive forgiveness and new life.
You don’t need to pretend you understand everything. You can come with questions, admit where you’ve resisted, and take your next step in faith.
The Jesus who found this man cares about you too.
Lord, I believe. Open my eyes, soften my heart, and help me follow You.
