The Door to Life | John 10:1–10
Have you ever walked into a room and wondered, “Do I belong here?” Maybe everyone seemed connected. Maybe you wondered whether you would still be welcome if people knew your story.
In John 9, Jesus heals a blind man, and the religious leaders throw him out. But Jesus goes looking for him.
That is the heart behind John 10. Jesus speaks about a shepherd, a door, and the life He offers. His invitation reaches us wherever we are: Jesus calls us away from what destroys us and into life with Him.
1. The Voice
You Are Known by the One Calling You
Our lives are shaped by the voices we trust. Advice from friends, pressure from culture, and our own desires can pull us in different directions.
Jesus describes a shepherd who calls his sheep by name and goes ahead of them. They follow because they know his voice.
Think about that: Jesus knows your name. He knows your fears, your questions, and why trusting Him sometimes feels difficult.
Yet every convincing voice does not deserve our trust. David’s men once encouraged him to kill Saul, making revenge sound like obedience. David refused.
We need to test the advice we receive against Scripture. As we spend time in God’s Word, we learn the character of the One leading us.
Whose voice carries the most weight in your life?
2. The Door
There Is an Invitation for You
Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved” (John 10:9).
You can know a church’s address, recognize the songs, and be familiar with the stories without ever entrusting your life to Jesus.
Some of us approach God holding up our accomplishments: “I’m kind. I help people. I go to church.” Others hold back because our failures feel too great.
Jesus invites both to come through Him.
We need His mercy. Jesus died for our sins and rose again so we could receive forgiveness and be reconciled to God.
Your past does not put you beyond His invitation. Come honestly. Turn to Him. Trust Him.
I was on the outside. Jesus brought me in.
3. The Life
Trust Him with What You Cannot Control
Jesus came so we could have life abundantly (John 10:10).
When I became Lead Pastor, I tried to control everything. Somewhere in my planning, I began trusting my ability to manage outcomes. God brought me back to a simple truth: trust Him.
Perhaps you feel that tension with your family, finances, or future.
Faithfulness includes doing what God has given us to do and trusting Him with what we cannot control.
Abundant life includes forgiveness, hope, and a relationship with Jesus that continues through painful circumstances. Battles may remain, but we do not face them alone.
Where are you looking for life—and is it delivering?
Today, bring Jesus what you are carrying. Ask for His mercy. Listen to His voice. Take your next step of trust.
Life has a name—and His name is Jesus.
