We aren’t just a church in a city.
Our passion is to make Christ known in the St. Lawrence, Canary and the surrounding high-rise communities of Toronto. We love our communities and jump at any opportunity to serve, share with, pray for, or help our neighbours!
Church in the City is much more than a meeting that happens on Sunday or even the physical building we meet in. Our church is a community of people who love Jesus and want to reflect the same love of God that we receive from Him, to others.
We live out our belief that everybody is welcome and invite anyone and everyone to come as you are. Living in a big city can sometimes feel lonely, but it doesn’t have to. The most important thing to us is that when you join our community, you feel safe, welcomed, and connected.
Meet our leadership team.
Dan Chandran
LEAD PASTOR
Pastor Dan started at CITC in 2017 to help lead our kids and youth as a Student Ministries Pastor. He worked diligently at building UrbanHope, our vision for a community mentorship program for kids and youth. In January 2020, Pastor Dan was voted in as the new Lead Pastor and has done a wonderful job at leading us over the past few years. He also serves as Toronto Fire Services Chaplain (South Command).
Ernest Reuban
Worship Director
Ernest was born and raised in Chennai, India. He moved to Canada in 2021 and is currently studying at Lambton College. Ernest will be leading worship at CITC and CITCanary, creating and developing worship teams, and leading our social media team. We welcomed Ernest to the CITC staff officially as of September 4th, 2022.
Geoffrey Nyakundi
CONNECTIONS PASTOR
Pastor Geoffrey has been a Pastor for many years and has planted and pastored churches in Kenya. Pastor Geoffrey is currently studying at Tyndale University and is enrolled in his Master of Theological Studies program. Who are we?
Our Mission
We are an urban church centred in Christ providing vibrant community, a safe place to grow spiritually, and opportunities to serve others with compassion and reach those who don't yet know Jesus.
We know that living in the heart of a busy city can ironically feel lonely. We welcome anyone and everyone with open arms and encourage you to come exactly as you are.
Our Vision
Our passion is to make Christ known in the St. Lawrence, Canary and surrounding high-rise communities.
We love our neighbourhoods and make every effort to have a strong presence within them. We love hosting community events and engaging in community partnership to show love to the people directly around us.
Our Values
The heartbeat of our community of Jesus-followers is:
Compassion
Mentorship
Diverse Community
Creating Hope
Outreach
We have a history.
Church in the City began in September 1985 through the vision of Stone Church in partnership with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC). CITC started on the west side of Yonge Street, but soon moved across the street when a better rental came available. Near the end of the 90's, the congregation looked for alternative locations and landed in the St. Lawrence community renting from St. Michael's Catholic School. In 2003, the congregation moved to our current location in the David B. Archer Co-operative.
In that time, God has used this church to impact many lives! In his book A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, Donald Miller wrote, “Everyone is writing a story, so go write a good story for God.” This is our legacy and we always want to add more chapters to the story.
We began our satellite campus, Church in the Canary, in October 2018 to give our neighbours in the Canary District of Toronto their own church. It was our vision from 2015 to respond to the developing neighbourhood after the Pan Am games.
