Sermon Series Blog: Paraclete Pt. 1
The Invitation to Deepen Your Faith
In our spiritual journey, the words of Apostle Paul resonate deeply, urging us to delve deeper into our faith, beyond the surface level of routine religious activities. It's about transforming our day-to-day life to reflect Christ’s love in everything we do, from our triumphs to our setbacks. This call to spiritual maturity is a challenging yet rewarding path, pushing us to align our desires with God’s desires as expressed in
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?"
1 Corinthians 3:16:
Historical Context and Divine Relationship
Throughout history, we have seen the consequences when humanity pursues worldly desires over divine relationship. These choices often lead to temporary satisfaction followed by inevitable destruction. However, there is profound hope in the life and teachings of Jesus, who exemplified the path of truth, love, hope, joy, freedom, and life. His sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection are pivotal in understanding the essence of our faith, highlighted in John 16:7, where Jesus promised the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to us.
The Power of the Holy Spirit
After His ascension, Jesus did not leave us to navigate this world alone. He promised the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, who would come to guide and sustain us. This truth should resonate within every believer, reminding us that we are not mere observers but active participants in our faith. The Holy Spirit lives within us, empowering us and leading us toward spiritual gifts that glorify God's kingdom as detailed in Ephesians 1:17-20, urging us to seek wisdom and revelation to know Him better.
Personal Testimonies of Faith
In my own spiritual journey, I've faced numerous crossroads where the choice between the comfortable familiar and the challenging call of faith presented itself starkly. Sharing my personal story, I recall the initial reluctance and profound challenges that accompanied my decision to leave behind a life filled with worldly pursuits for a deeper calling in Christ.
This wasn't merely about moving from one city to another—from my hometown in Manitoba to Thunder Bay, and eventually to Toronto—but rather a profound internal migration from lukewarm faith to a fervent, wholehearted commitment to God's plan. Each step, whether it was wrestling with the decision to attend Bible college or accepting the call to ministry, was fraught with doubts and fears.
I remember vividly the dark years spent avoiding God’s call, running towards temporary pleasures and away from the persistent knocking on the door of my heart. The transformation began in earnest when I finally surrendered, choosing to trust in the path God laid out for me, despite not fully understanding where it would lead.
Reflecting on these experiences, I see them not just as personal milestones but as markers of God's faithfulness in guiding us through our hesitations and into His divine purpose. This testimony is shared with the hope that it might resonate with someone standing at a similar junction, encouraging you to trust in God's plan. As we each face our own decisions to either walk familiar paths or step into the roles God has called us to, may we find the courage to choose faith over comfort, and in doing so, step into a richer, more spiritually mature life with Christ.
